The addition of the mineral slurry to the anode compartment of the sulfuric acid-water electrolysis cell results in the suppression of oxygen evolution rate at a cell voltage of 2V with an acceleration of the hydrogen production rate.
The whole system can be run continuously using appropriate pumping of the proprietary slurry mix.
Using a natural metamorphic mineral available in large quantities in the US, deposits can be used with this process to sequester all the carbon dioxide emissions produced from fossil fuels. With the Doyen process, there is need to crush the mineral fine and there is no need high temperatures as the reaction gives off heat even at room temperature. This method is much less energy expensive for both sequestration and hydrogen production.
The process relies upon Doyens’ proven technologies applying circularity in its products. Inexpensive electrodes and ready available materials are keys to potential commercialization. Doyen will commercialize the technology through licensing.
